Swimmers Finish Strong (Nov. 23, 2009)

The BC provincial championships in swimming were held on Friday and Saturday, and our swimmers did spectacularly.  Burkely Duffield swam personal best times in the freestyle 50 meters, at 27.5 seconds, and the 100 meters, at 1 minutes, 6 seconds, and other coaches could not beleive that he only swims at high school, not for any other competitive team.  He placed 15th and 14th in the province respectively.  He was also on a relay team with Matt Bianchini, Luis Baquedano, and Josh Davis; they improved about 4 seconds over their qualification time to hit 2:04 and take 8th in the province, something almost unheard of for athletes who do not swim outside of high school.  Tori Wong fought hard in all 4 of her races, in spite of a recent injury that knocked her out of training for a while.  The other relay team of Caleb Reardon, Curtis Yaffe, Joon Rho and Keenan Rogozinski also had an amazing result, taking 6 off of their qualifying time with 2:04.3, taking 10th in the province.  Yale was the only school in the 200 meter Freestayle relay with 2 teams in the top 10, which shows our depth.  Please congratulate our athletes when you see them today, they represented Yale well this weekend.
