Yale Wins! Yale Wins! Yale Wins! (March 20, 2010) |
|
In what has to be one of the strangest finals in the history of the tournament, the Yale varsity boys basketball team outlasted White Rock Christian 49-40 to win their second provincial title in three years. Stellar shooting was not the story of this defensive battle as neither team was able to dazzle the packed house with great scoring displays. With 5 minutes left in the game, neither team had yet hit the 40 point mark. A late run by the Lions saw them take their first lead and eventually the win. Nakai was named to the third allstar team, while Matt and Marek both were picked as first team allstars. Marek was also named the tournament's most valuable player. Congratulations to all the boys and coach Friesen for an exciting season and for bringing home the big prize. Special thanks to the crazy Yale fans who jumped on the busses and showed up in force to support their team.
