Jr Soccer Continues Its Winning Ways Against MEI (April 14, 2010)
Yesterday's soccer game was a scoreless battle for the first 10 minutes against MEI, until Kendra Arnold scored on a rising shot from the top of the box. Yale then pushed their advantage to 2-0 when Brianna Loewen scored on a penalty shot.  The game was filled with scoring chances for both teams, but keeper Maddy McAleese was stong in net for Yale and prevented MEI from finishing their attack. In the second half MEI scored to take the game to 2-1.   Yale finally put the lid on the game in the second half when Marina Sidhu set up Brianna Loewen for the third and final Yale goal.  The Yale girls are back in action this Thursday when they take on Brookswood in Langley.

Water Polo Finishes 3d (April 13, 2010)

Yale's water polo team had a solid performance at the BC High School Water Polo Championships on the weekend placing 3rd out of 14 teams in Tier 2. They went undefeated until the semi finals - losing a nail biter by one goal in sudden death overtime. Rookie Mikhail Roy was named the top goalie in Tier 2 - an outstanding feat for someone who had never played water polo before! Zoe Fenelon, another rookie, quickly picked up the game and even scored a goal. Provincial Team member Alexa Tielmann lead the team of Michelle Ghag, Curtis Yaffe, Zoee Fenelon, Mikhail Roy, Colin Draney and Kristoff Schlagintweit. It was a total team effort that was characterized by aggressive defensive play and precision passing that made for a powerful offense. Congratulations Yale Water Polo!

Jr Girls Top Mouat (April 9, 2010)
It wasa windy game yesterday for the Junior Girls Soccer team! Keeping the ball on the turf , with quick passes, was the key to the girls 3-0 win over Mouat.  To start the scoring off, Jessica Janower sent a cross into the box, which Kelsie Warmerdam trapped to Brianna Loewen, who then finished the ball into the net. Brianna Mairs was stong in the midfield with her solid crosses, with one leading to Brianna Loewen's second goal.   Claire Fowler, Brittany Voth, Jesscia Collins and Marina Sidhu were solid on defense, sending the ball back in for the attack. Jessica Janower chipped in the third and final goal for the Yale squad.

Yale BC High School Hockey Champions (April 5, 2010)

Yale came out on top of the first ever BC high school hockey championship.  More important than the win, was the tremendous class and mental toughness the kids demonstrated at the Pitt Meadows Blue Arena yesterday. Walnut Grove secondary had a team of Gr 11's and 12's and their game plan from the beginning was to intimidate our team of Gr 10's.  However, our boys stuck to their game plan and refused to take retaliatory penalties which put us on the powerplay early.  At the end of two periods we were only up by 2 goals.  Then, as Walnut Grove got more and more frustrated, we stayed cool and drove 3 nails in their coffin by going on the powerplay.  Final score: 7-2.  Devon Toews took home MVP.  The 5.7" forward led the tournament in scoring over senior Major Midget players and WHL draft picks Dalton Sward, and Connor Sanvido.  Our goalie Mackenzie Skapski, who survived the worst trauma of the horrific Bus crash in Prince George this year, battled hard as this tournament was the first games he played in following the accident in December.  Well done boys!
