Yale Senior Boys Rugby Earns Berth! (May 11, 2012)

rugbyarticleThe Yale Senior boys rugby team earned a berth to the BC High School Championships on Tuesday by beating Abby Collegiate 56-12. Abby woke the Lions up early on by scoring the first try of the game and going up 7-0. Yale bounced back by a heads up play by scrum half Spencer Miller who faked a pass then darted through tacklers to score under the posts. Abby would not quit and came back with another score that was not converted. Yale then took over the game and began to string some good phases of rugby together. Coulson de St Remy had many big crashes in the backs and scored a try. Miller added another, while Brodie de St remy, Daniel Baranowski, Akash Deo, Eli Reeves-Tigunov, and Thomas Choi all scored a try each. Akash Deo was 100% in his kicks, hitting 8 in a row for 16 points. The Lions will compete in the BC Championships which will be at Ex Park in Abbotsford from May 30th - June 2nd, but first they play Semihamoo in the FV Bronze medal game May 17th.

SGB Stumble In Quarter Finals (March 9, 2012)

The senior girls were unable to pull off an upset win over Valley rival Brookswood last night in quarter final action of the BCs.  The Lion's offense never really found a rhythm and turnovers hurt them all night.  The Bobcats built and early lead going into the half with a 43-24 advantage that really didn't change much for the rest of the game.  Sarah Kurath led the Lions with 15 pts; Hailey Kendal chipped in 10.  Final score 71-50.  The Lions now move to the consolation side of the tournament and are in action tonight at 5:15 pm against Claremont.

SBB Earn Trip To Provincials (Mar. 4, 2012)

After a long road in the Valley tournament the senior boys' season came down to a single game for the final spot in the provincial tournament.  North Delta had already upset Enver Creek earlier in the tournament and seemed ready to do it again last night.  Yale started slow and was down 7 early but battled back to take a 25-24 half time lead.  The Lions built a second half 11-point lead but with 5 minutes remaining the score was 55-53 Yale as neither team was able to score.  The boys came up with a break away basket, three free throws, and some timely rebounds to close it out 60-53 to punch their ticket to the BCs.

Yale Girls Earn First Provincial Berth In Two Decades (Feb. 28, 2012)

yalegirlsbball12The latest edition of the Yale Lions senior girls basketball team has always had a knack for making history.

Two years ago, the Lions' current crop of Grade 11 and 12 players won the school's first-ever Fraser Valley junior girls title.

On Tuesday evening, they added to that legacy, beating the Maple Ridge Ramblers 68-65 to clinch a trip to the B.C. AAA Basketball Championships.

"I've heard it's the first time in 20 years that the senior girls have qualified for provincials," enthused Lions head coach Euan Roberts. "For the school and the basketball program, it's fantastic. All the girls are really excited." READ MORE HERE...
