Playoff Victories For Junior Boys & Girls (Feb. 4, 2010) |

Congrats to the junior girls basketball team who crushed Abby Collegiate 63- 12 last night in their first playoff game. Jessica Collins led the team in points and rebounds. Kendra Arnold was a thief with 10 steals. Good work ladies! The junior boys won their quarter final game against Abby Traditional 79-59 to advance to the semi-finals on Monday, 6:15pm at Yale. High scorers for Yale were Brodie De St. Remy and Trevor Berge. |

Sr Girls Compete Hard Against Mouat (Feb 3, 2010) |

The Senior girls basketball team fought hard against top ranked WJ Mouat last night at the Lion's Den. Led by Celeste Dick, the Lions kept the game close for 3 quarters. In the end, the strength of the Mouat squad won out with a final score in favour of the visitors 91-71. The Lions play Thursday night at Sardis for their final league game and will start their playoff run next Tuesday in a zone game. The Lions currently sit in fourth place and have their sights set on a berth into the Valley Championships. Good luck. |

Junior Girls Win! (Feb. 1, 2010) |

Congrats to the junior girls basketball team who placed first in the Lord Tweedsmuir tournament over the weekend. The girls dominated the tournament, no team could match their speed, skill and power. Outstanding performance by Sara Kurath and Hannah Klassen was awarded Tournament MVP. Good work ladies!! |

Congrats to our junior boys basketball team on defeating #5 ranked Tamanawis from Surrey over the weekend. Outstanding performances by Trevor Berge, Brodie de St. Remy, and Sid Sethi - leading the Lions to victory! The League Playoffs begin this Wed. at 6:15 at MEI. Good luck junior boys. |

Juniors Move Into Playoffs (Jan. 24, 2010) |

Both the junior boys and girls team finished first in their leagues. They have a week to prepare then start their playoff run the first week of February. The boys have a first round bye and play the winner of Abby Traditional/Unity at MEI on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 6:15 pm. Lions Win Snowball (Jan. 16, 2010) |

The senior boys basketball team succesfully defended their title at the Abby Snowball tournament beating Our Saviour New American from New York 97-89 in the final game. The game was tight the entire way as Yale only took a lead in the final quarter. Marek Klassen and Nakai Luyken (29 points) led the way offensively with Marek finishing with 41 points, the player of the game award, and the tournament MVP. Nakai and Matt Letkeman were also named to the tournament's first allstar team.

Varsity Boys Win Legal Beagle (Jan. 10, 2010) |

The Sr Boys Basketball team closed out the Legal Beagle on the weekend, beating seventh ranked Burnaby South 91-63. Marek Klassen took a hard fall just before the half and left the game to get 10 stitches above his eye. Before he left, he had already scored 28 points. The rest of the team stepped up to close out the game. Marek was named tournament MVP while Matt Letkeman and Nakai Luyken were both awarded first team allstars.

Junior Teams Take Over First Place (Jan. 7, 2010) |

Both the boys and girls junior teams defeated Mouat on Wednesday to take over first place in the league. The girls won 42-21 behind solid defensive pressure and an entire team effort. The boys had a tight contest the whole way, but were able to hang on to a 61-58 win behind solid play from Sid Sidharth, Trevor Berge, Brodi de St. Remy, Landon Gartner and Kevin Yankov. |

The first time Yale Secondary senior girls volleyball coach Ali Tessarolo saw her star player in action, she couldn't help gushing a little. "I just thought, 'Wow, that girl can really hit it hard with her right hand,' " Tessarolo recalled of her 6-foot right side standout Rosie Schlagintweit.
